STEP ONE: Preparing Your Book File

Follow these guidelines in preparing your Microsoft Word file:

The best way to give your book to us is one larger Microsoft Word file. If your book is in multiple world files (e.g., a file for each story or chapter), make sure to rename them using numbers or letters to indicate the order (e.g., 1-happiness; 2-living well, etc.).

——————————————————————

You may wish to create a custom page size in your document so you can get an idea how your text will look on the page, but do not spend too much time fussing with margins as this will all be reset when we create the layout in InDesign.

——————————————————————

DO put your favorite font(s), font sizes (10, 12, 14 point etc.), and font styles (regular, bold, italics) into your manuscript as appropriate; these will carry over into InDesign

——————————————————————

Artwork and images: You may place artwork and images in the Microsoft Word file where they should appear in the book (alternatively, you can just put a bracketed [ ] note indicating where these should appear] – but you will need to provide us with 300 dpi image files separately for all artwork/images. If there are lots of image files, we appreciate your numbering the image files to match notations indicating their placement in the book.

——————————————————————

DO NOT put in headers or footers or other special formatting; all this must be stripped before we load the manuscript into InDesign. We will duplicate your formatting as closely as possible.
