Artist Orma Hammond sprinkles her personal story with tips to inspire others to create the life of their dreams:
The journey to fulfillment can be as long and difficult as you choose to make it, or it can be a short path to a wonderful life. I took the hard road because I didn’t know the difference. My hope is that I can make it easier for you.
I’m grateful for the life I have now. It’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more, but it hasn’t always been that way. My life was very difficult in the beginning, and into the middle years. I wish someone would have given me some shortcuts when I began my quest. The self-help books rewarded me with a clue here and there, as did the seminars and workshops. It took me about eight years of hard work and many more years of practice.
My hopes and dreams in 1975 were for a happy marriage, a comfortable home and security. That’s a far cry from what I had. I was approaching my 40th birthday and my life was a complete disaster. My second marriage was rapidly crumbling. We had lost a business, gone through bankruptcy, and I had sold the house from my first marriage to pay the back taxes.
I felt completely powerless. My life had always been focused on home and family. I hadn’t gone to college, or taken any training to prepare for making a living. It seemed like I had been in this state of desperation for years. One day I just screamed out loud, “I’m not going to do this anymore. I want more from my life.” Looking back now I realize that opportunities started to open up as soon as I declared what I wanted and made a move to change the situation.
Declare what you want, then take an action in that direction.
